Club Rules

The full ParBlo's members' guide — club rules, scoring, handicaps and the rules of golf. Tap a section to expand it.

Club Rules+
  1. Every club member must have an official handicap. Members without one are allowed a grace period until April 2026, after which their score won't count toward the league tally. Official handicaps are limited to the South African Golf Association and do not include HCap.co.za.
  2. Players competing off a handicap higher than officially recorded will be immediately disqualified — a score of zero carries through for that round, and any prizes accumulated will be recalled.
  3. Members are required to wear ParBlo's shirts for every monthly game (any year's shirt is fine). Failure to do so results in a −2 point penalty for that game.
  4. Players caught cheating during a ParBlo's game receive zero points for that hole, and the Working Committee is notified.
  5. Requests for specific four-ball pairings must be made by the end of Thursday before the game — group changes aren't made after that.
Non-Attendance & Punctuality+

Non-attendance:

  • Confirmed members must notify the Captain or Vice-Captain of non-attendance by Thursday midday before the game.
  • Notice given later than that (Thursday midday to Saturday) makes the member liable for green fees — extreme circumstances are considered by the Working Committee.

Punctuality:

  • Members must arrive at least 30 minutes before their four-ball's tee-off time.
  • Arriving late incurs a 2-point penalty for the round.
  • Missing your four-ball's tee-off adds a 2-shot penalty per hole missed, on top of the above.
  • A confirmed no-show costs 5 points off the year-end total per missed game, plus possible liability for green/cart fees.
Membership Fees+

Membership for 2026 is R1,200, payable in 2 instalments over February and March — a minimum of R600 due at the end of each month.

  • Members not up to date with fees forfeit any prizes due — prizes aren't passed down to the next eligible player.
  • Members with outstanding fees will be notified and remain liable for payment.
  • Rescinded memberships lose the membership fee — no refunds.

Membership fees cover: prizes for the top 3 positions each game, the year's floating trophies, the lowest-points-scorer prize, the Match Play trophy, "Longest Drive" and "Nearest the Pin" prizes, and partial subsidy toward the year-end function and club getaway.

Scorecards & Handicaps+

Scorecards:

  • Year-end winners are decided using the Stableford method (see below) — members should know how to calculate their own score.
  • Every player in a four-ball is responsible for keeping the group's scores.
  • One signed scorecard per four-ball must be handed to the Captain, Vice-Captain or Treasurer at the end of play. Unsigned scorecards are not accepted.
  • Each member's best 8 scores of the year count toward the year-end prizes.

Handicaps:

  • Open your round before commencing play.
  • Capture every ParBlo's round on Handicaps.co.za (SAGA).
  • Ensure scores are captured correctly — this is verified by Committee members.
  • SAGA scores must be captured the evening of the round, or they're auto-penalised by the system. Capture immediately after the game where possible.
  • Uncaptured scores are forced upon members the Friday before the next game.
Match Play League+

Run every year alongside the Stableford League.

  1. Draws are random — anyone absent from the draw has their name drawn on their behalf.
  2. Players play off handicap as outlined in the Club Rules.
  3. A default on the punctuality rule means disqualification, and a walkover to the opponent.
  4. Matches must be completed on or before the monthly ParBlo's game. To play on a ParBlo's Sunday, notify the Committee to be paired in the same four-ball. If unresolved due to absence, the Committee draws a random winner by coin toss.
  5. A tie goes to sudden death, played off scratch handicap regardless of stroke holes, until there's a winner.
  6. The player listed first in each match chooses the course — negotiation between opponents is permitted.
  7. Weather-affected games are resolved at the Working Committee's discretion.
  8. If only one player shows for a scheduled match, they're awarded the win.
  9. Any breach of golf rules during a match results in loss of that hole.
Stableford Method For Scoring+

Stableford limits the shots a golfer may play, speeding up pace of play and keeping a few bad holes from ending anyone's round. Each hole carries a Stroke Index (SI) from 1 (hardest) to 18 (easiest).

Ties are broken, in order, by: best back-nine score → best score over the last 6 holes (13–18) → best score over the last 3 holes (16–18) → best score on hole 18 → a coin toss.

Handicap higher than 18: subtract 18 from your handicap to find which stroke indices earn a double stroke. E.g. a 24-handicapper double-strokes SI 1–6.
ResultSingle Stroke PtsDouble Stroke Pts
Eagle (2-under)56
Birdie (1-under)45
Par34
Bogey (1-over)23
Double-Bogey (2-over)12
Blown (3-over+)00 / 1 (triple-bogey)
Handicap 18 or lower: single-stroke any hole with a stroke index up to your handicap. E.g. a 12-handicapper single-strokes SI 1–12; SI 13–18 are non-stroking holes.
ResultSingle Stroke PtsNo Stroke Pts
Eagle (2-under)54
Birdie (1-under)43
Par32
Bogey (1-over)21
Double-Bogey (2-over+)10

If a handicap-higher-than-18 player doesn't finish a hole, record 3-over par with no points. If handicap 18-or-lower, record 2-over par with no points.

Rules Of Golf+

Penalty definitions: one-stroke penalty (e.g. dropping a ball) · two-stroke penalty (e.g. rule breach) · stroke-plus-distance / two-stroke penalty (replaying from where a ball was lost or hit out of bounds).

New rules of golf:

  1. Drop from knee height, not shoulder height — 2-shot penalty and re-drop if breached.
  2. Search time is 3 minutes, not 5 — 2-shot penalty if breached.
  3. Accidentally moving a ball while searching isn't a penalty — replace it and play on.
  4. An unintentional double-hit counts as one stroke; an intentional one is a 2-shot penalty.
  5. A ball hitting you or your equipment isn't a penalty — intentional contact is a 2-shot penalty.
  6. Putting with the flag in is permitted — your choice to leave it in or take it out.
  7. Spike/shoe marks may be repaired on the green.
  8. Unintentionally moving the ball on the green isn't a penalty — replace and play on (2-shot penalty if not).
  9. Loose impediments may be moved inside penalty areas (bunkers/red/yellow stakes).
  10. You can't touch the sand with your club, behind or in front of the ball, on a practice swing in a bunker.
  11. A plugged ball may be lifted, the ground repaired, and the ball dropped in the fairway or rough (replaced, not dropped, on the green).
  12. An unplayable ball in a bunker is a 2-shot penalty with a drop outside the bunker, no nearer the hole.
  13. Caddies or partners can't stand behind a player addressing a putt to assist alignment.
  14. Handicaps no longer need to be written on the scorecard in stroke play — the Committee verifies accuracy.
  15. A club damaged during a round (not through abuse) may be replaced.
  16. A ball moved by natural forces after being dropped, placed or replaced must be replaced if it moves areas or goes out of bounds.

Who We Are

About ParBlo's

The ParBlo's Social Golf Club was founded in 2013 and has been a tremendous success ever since — with plenty more years still to come. Every season, the club welcomes new members into great times and even better golf.

We're a social club first. The handbook covers the rules, scoring and handicap system in detail (see the Club Rules page) — but the short version is: turn up, play fair, wear the shirt, and enjoy the round.

The bandit on our crest says it all — golf with a sense of humour, played among friends who've been doing this together for over a decade.

Hall Of Fame — Previous ParBlo's Winners

2019 & 2020 ran a split league (Premier League / First Division) — 1st & 2nd shown are Premier League standings.
